Being the result of reform and opening up policy of China, China Everbright Group was established by Mr.Wang Guangying in May 1983 in Hong Kong, and formerly opened up on 18th of August the same year with its first registered name of "Ziguang Industrial Co., Ltd.". The group then changed the name to "China Everbright Group" in July, 1984, and Mr Wang Guangying was elected as the first Chairman of the Group.
In 1983, in the document approving the article of association of the Group, the State Council affirmed that China Everbright Group was a ministry level company under the Administration of the State Council.
1983 to 1990 witnessed the beginning period when the group was mainly engaged in foreign trade business and investment business.
1990 to 1996 the group expanded its business to financial sector and started to invest in Hong Kong capital market. China Everbright (Group) Co., Ltd. was established in 1990, and soon China Everbright Bank and Everbright Securities were set up. In Hong Kong and Singapore, the group invested and restructured four listed companies, i.e. China Everbright Limited, China Everbright International Limited, China Everbright Technology Limited and China Everbright Asia-pacific Limited.
1996 to July 1999 the group readjusted its business strategies by reducing foreign trade business, and aimed at developing evenly in different business sectors.
From July 1999, in responding to the request of the Chinese government, the group put financial business as its priority and further reduced its investment in industrial areas. In August 2007, State Council approved the restructuring plan and the restructuring works were officially kicked off. As the first achievement, China Everbright Industrial (Group) Company Limited was set up on November 30, 2007.
According to the new restructuring plan, the Group will be built into the first full-fledged financial holding corporation in China.
